Summary

With A Christmas Carol Charles Dickens created a modern fairy tale and shaped our ideas of Christmas。 The tale of the solitary miser Ebenezer Scrooge, who is taught the true meaning of the season by a series of ghostly visitors and given a second chance, was conjured up by Dickens during one of his London night walks, who "wept and laughed" as he composed it。 Taken to readers' hearts for its humour, compassion and message of redemption, it remains its best-loved book。

I had read this book when I was young。 Now I read it to my nephew and both of us love it to the moon。 Introduction and Afterword by Joe Wheeler To bitter, miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, Christmas is just another day。 But all that changes when the ghost of his long-dead business partner appears, warning Scrooge to change his ways before it's too late。Part of the Focus on the Family Great Stories collection, this abridged edition features an in-depth introduction and discussion questions by Joe Wheeler I had read this book when I was young。 Now I read it to my nephew and both of us love it to the moon。 Introduction and Afterword by Joe Wheeler To bitter, miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, Christmas is just another day。 But all that changes when the ghost of his long-dead business partner appears, warning Scrooge to change his ways before it's too late。Part of the Focus on the Family Great Stories collection, this abridged edition features an in-depth introduction and discussion questions by Joe Wheeler to provide greater understanding for today's reader。 "A Christmas Carol" captures the heart of the holidays like no other novel。 。。。more

I know it's not Christmas time, but I read this now anyways, and I really enjoyed it! I'm sure everyone knows the story, but the details describing Scrooge and the ghosts are exquisite。 And obviously Scrooge's transformation is still as heartwarming as ever。 I don't know if I just needed a feel good story right now, but this one definitely hit the spot!

I am very grateful that I listen to this rather than read it。 Tim Curry is masterful when it comes to bringing this story alive。 plus, I completely understand why people believe Dickens was paid by the word!

This book, one of Charles Dickens most noteworthy works, is completely based on Ebenezer Scrooge, a miser, whose miser friend and partner, Jacob Marley died years ago。 But soon, he is haunted by the ghosts of the past, the present, and the future。 This book is quite easy to read though, unlike the rest of Charles Dickens' books。 And in the end, Ebenezer Scrooge becomes a man who is always jolly and fun。 A good book。 This book, one of Charles Dickens most noteworthy works, is completely based on Ebenezer Scrooge, a miser, whose miser friend and partner, Jacob Marley died years ago。 But soon, he is haunted by the ghosts of the past, the present, and the future。 This book is quite easy to read though, unlike the rest of Charles Dickens' books。 And in the end, Ebenezer Scrooge becomes a man who is always jolly and fun。 A good book。 。。。more

The insight of humanity and emotions related to experiences the characters have gone through, really tie things together。

As a HUGE fan of Christmas, and in particular a fan of ''A Christmas Carol'', I highly, highly, recommend this beautiful new edition。 I wish I had a physical copy in my hands too! This is the classic story in fusion with beautiful, watercolour illustrations by Hans Christian Andersen Award recipient Lisbeth Zwerger。 Looking through this, I got the impression that she told the tale through her use of colours and techniques。 I'm by no means an expert in illustrating, so I won't be able to properly As a HUGE fan of Christmas, and in particular a fan of ''A Christmas Carol'', I highly, highly, recommend this beautiful new edition。 I wish I had a physical copy in my hands too! This is the classic story in fusion with beautiful, watercolour illustrations by Hans Christian Andersen Award recipient Lisbeth Zwerger。 Looking through this, I got the impression that she told the tale through her use of colours and techniques。 I'm by no means an expert in illustrating, so I won't be able to properly describe what and how it's done, but each illustration helps bring the atmosphere of the characters and situations to life。 The way Scrooge is depicted and the colours she uses for him, are in total opposite of what she does for other characters。 You can exactly tell which characters are good, kind, lovely, and which are。。。not so much。 Once again, this is the classic story (which I've read so many times, and watched all kinds of renditions of it, even the Muppet Christmas Carol, which is one of my faves。), but in an edition that would stand out proudly on anyone shelf。 I will, without a doubt, be going through this one, again, again and again。 。。。more

One of the classics。 This one really like。 It is kind of other worldy but a good read。 Sometimes you need help to get things in perspective。 I guess Scrooge learned。

Felt a little rushed。 Got enough time with initial ghosts but the climax felt too quick to be able to come to terms with what happened in the story。 Just a 10-20 pages more maybe? But as far as self-discovery stories go, this one was unique in its setting。 Mostly self-discovery happens in life threatening situations or some classic adventure-like sequences。 But it's much different and much better here。 Felt a little rushed。 Got enough time with initial ghosts but the climax felt too quick to be able to come to terms with what happened in the story。 Just a 10-20 pages more maybe? A very entertaining book that includes a massive theme or redemption。 (If the worst man in London can change from his awful ways。 Anyone can!)

The characterization of Scrooge and the descriptions of his emotions and the surroundings are amazing。 I feel like it’s almost Christmas time in July while I am reading this。

The Jim Dale narration is fabulous! Wonderful!
